Year 6 Experience a WW2 Christmas

Our Y6 children stepped back in time to experience Christmas during WW2 earlier this week!

The day commenced with research into World War 2 Christmas celebrations. Students discovered how typical families might have prepared 'Murkey', a potato-based alternative to turkey, and how they crafted decorations from tin cans and other household materials.

Inspired by the 'make do and mend' ethos of a World War 2 Christmas, the pupils created their own gifts for loved ones using wooden dolly pegs and paper to construct peg dolls and miniature Spitfires. They also handmade unique Christmas cards.

The afternoon was all about celebration and dancing to keep the Blitz spirit alive! We ate jam tarts, drank tea and danced the lindy hop.

This experience provided our Year 6 students with a remarkable opportunity to bring their learning to life in a fully immersive and engaging manner.
